George Till

Exploration Manager MENA

No Background

George is an exploration geologist with over 15 years of experience in first-mover, remote, newly accessible settings. This has included being a part of the team that successfully brought Jabal Sayid from Exploration to Mining Stage, the first modern copper mine in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. George has a passion for exploration, to go where the rocks and opportunities for discovery are, taking him to the open spaces and forests of Madagascar, the high-altitude snow-covered mountainous terrain of the Sierra Nevada, the dry hot heat of the sandy and rocky Middle East, and the wide expanse of the Australian Bush, in addition to multiple other localities around the globe.

George has experience and advocated strongly for the use of the latest appropriate exploration technology and techniques, guided by the geological understanding of the gold, copper, or zinc opportunity. George researched, coordinated, led the importation of, planned, implemented, and supervised the first-use of latest exploration technology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia including ground and airborne geophysics and remote sensing. This led to more efficient target generation and advancement, minimising cost whilst adding significant value.

With a strong track history of exploration success through geology-driven discovery within significant world-class mineral districts including the Cloncurry district, Carlin Trend, Walker Lane Trend, Arabian Shield, KKI Inlier, McArthur River, and the Tethyan Belt, achievements include: the discovery of known lode extensions and new lode potential at the Jabal Sayid copper mine, identification of the controls to gold mineralization at SWAN, the discovery and development on non-refractory gold at Massawa, generation of new targets within the Walker Lane Trend, and significant extension to the Tongon life of mine. George is currently focussed on making the next exploration discovery in the Arabian-Nubian Shield and North Africa.

Throughout his career George has been a strong supporter of development of the next generation of geologists. This has included designing, implementing, and developing the Ma’aden – Barrick geologist training program and Summer Internship program in the KSA, the implementation and refinement of training programs for geology graduates in West Africa and the Middle East, and in his capacity as a Mentor and Sponsor for geologists seeking Chartered status with The Geological Society. George also supported the design and implementation of a new Masters course at King AbdulAziz University including incorporating private industry participation.

George holds a Msci (First-class Hons) in Geoscience from the University of Durham, U.K., which included a competitive student exchange to the University of California, San Diego, U.S.A. with two academic letters received. George is a Chartered Geologist of The Geological Society, and a European Geologist of the European Federation of Geologists.
