Not all exploration projects advance to the mining stage. Ensuring a high-quality project portfolio and maximising the chance of success means having the team, technical ability and tools at your fingertips to ensure a promising pipeline of new discoveries. Royal Road Minerals is the largest title and application holder in Colombia, additional to the Guintar and Margaritas mining titles, the company owns a further 16 high-quality mining title areas and 85 title applications. The company is also very active on target generation and regional exploration in Saudi Arabia and Morocco. Royal Road has a proven track record of discovery, thanks mostly to a field-focused approach supported by a sound process of target generation and decision support.
Royal Road’s exploration process starts with time-space analysis. This process involves the establishment initially of a time-space plot which is a graphical representation of any country/region’s geological and metallogenic history. Accepted morphotectonic elements are distributed across the X-axis and a relevant timescale (Archaean ± Proterozoic ± Phanerozoic ±Mesozoic ± Cenozoic) forms the Y-axis. Hundreds of peer-reviewed articles, geological maps and reports and other relevant information is then reviewed with key constraints such as timing of orogenic events (dates, unconformities), bulk extension events, age and location of magmatic arcs, paleo-geographical setting and the timing of mineralization extracted from the source material and then plotted on the time-space plot.
Key periods and settings related to copper and gold mineralization are identified from the time space plot and then compiled, consolidated and remapped using digital geological maps. A finite fabric analysis is also produced at this time using available spectral and airborne geophysical data in order to identify key crustal breaks and favourable crustal architecture for the control and emplacement of mineralization. Host and cover sequences are also extracted from digital data.
Information and data compiled as part of this process together with mineral occurrence datasets, specialist maps (including non-geological information such as the location of current licenses, protected areas etc), available geochemistry, geophysics, remote sensing, geochronology etc is located and registered in GIS format and saved in fileserver or database format.
Royal Road Arabia highly values the field component of exploration target generation and utilizes specialist reconnaissance hardware, including reconnaissance support vehicles and in-house geophysical and analytical equipment including magnetometers, a spectrometer, multispectral camera and portable XRF. The Company has separate operations and technical teams with seasoned operators ensuring maximum support, efficiency, efficacy and field safety. Field observations and results are fed back in an iterative process to ensure that time-space plots, maps, reconstructions and decision support systems are updated and current.
The Company moves quickly to secure quality target areas under license or to consummate deals with local owners/partners.
